Best powder for 95 grain SST in 243 besides IMR 4064????

I tried using IMR 4064 all the way up and down the powder recommendations using a hornady 95 grain SST bullet. I could not not get it to group at all. The best was in the 2 to 3 inch group at 100 yards.

I can grab this rifle a weatherby 243 and a cheap box of hornday whitetail 100 grain soft point and shot sub moa all day with it. So I know its not the scope or the rifle. I am using good new brass and I have prepped it very well also federal match primers.

I have about 300 rounds of the SST bullets that I would like to shoot at a low or medium velocity to let my 9 year old son deer hunt with.

I am seeking any power recommendations you might have for a 95 grain SST bullet in 243. My go to powder is usually IMR 4064 as this is the first time I could not get it to work. I dont like stocking alot of powders but I have several pounds of H1000, W748, IMR 4198, CFE BLackout all of which im sure are not right for a 243.

I have a small amount of H4895 that I could try. Any input please????

My go to powder for that load is IMR 4350 but it doesn’t meter very good. If I was rebuying I would use Hodgedon 4350SC. It is cut shorter and meters better through your powder thrower.

If a .243 won't group with a stout dose of IMR-4350 or H4350 under a quality 95 - 105 gr. bullet use the dang thing for a tomato stake.

Give IMR 4320 a try. Using 100 grain Sierra GK SBT with and even 35 grains of powder gets my Rem. 700 a half inch 3 shot group at 100 yards.

And make sure to thoroughly clean the copper out.
35g of varget and an 85g Speer for my 10yo.
4350 is usually THE powder for .243. It just works well. I never liked 4064, for anything. Lincoln Logs are kid's toys, not propellant.

I had a box of SSTs about 15years ago that would group about 10” at 100 yards. Same gun would shoot MOA with other stuff. This was in a 7 mag. Have loaded different calibers for others with SSTs and have had decent luck. I tried about 5 different powders and multiple charges and never did get better than 10” groups with that one box in 7 mag.
H4350 for me. I like the SST's.
Hot and pretty accurate powder up in the 3100+ fps range in the 95 grain bullets but he wants to load for a youths shoulder. Needs a slower burning powder in my opinion. :)

Edit.....did some checking....for a lighter load that is friendly to youth and smaller framed adults I found H4895 with 33 grains pushes that 95 grain bullet out the barrel at 2865 fps and even loaded hot with 35 grains getting 2990 fps....OR....Varget with 33 grains that travels at 2870 fps and loaded hot with 35 grains pushes that same 95 grain bullet at 2996 fps. Either would be my choice for loading rounds for my grandson the same age as Jamie557's son.
I think H4895 is the only powder that you can “youth” load with. It ignites consistently with light loads. Have used it in 243 and 30-06 for kids. Light bullet light load = no recoil.

It might not be the powder. I load IMR-4350 in my wife's .243 under Sierra Game Kings and it's sub MOA in her ancient Savage 110.
