What do you think is the best military type rifle for hunting adiquately for deer and big game? I vote the lee enfield for its almost semi-auto shooting capibilites with the fast cawk-on closing bolt and the 303 is a awesome round.

Wow. Lots of good rifles up there and so many more you forgot about. I guess the question would be what are you gonna hunt? That would lead you to maybe the rifles since there are so many calibers. For a "do everything" gun the .30-06 round is hard to beat. That would give you the Garands, 1903s, and 1917s. The Mausers are also a very good all purpose round but they were not invented in the USA so they automatically come in 2nd. Not, really Im just being silly.
My wife is deadly on deer with her SKS and that round would also include the AK but Im not sure if they have a 10 round mag available to make them legal to hunt with. Anywho, My top choice would be a bolt action .30-06 so the 1903 and M1917 would get my vote.:cheers::cheers:

sorry i forgot some! i was planning to add the 1903 and 1917 but was rushing this poll! and yes they make 10 round mags for the ak-47

EDIT: ive held a 1903 and a 1917 and they both seem like awesome rifles. little bit on the expensive side though!

No need to be sorry. Im stickin with my choices. The .30-06 will drop anything in North America and with todays loading technology can be brought down to hunt smaller game as well. Did you ever get you a Mosin?op:

My mom was talkin to an old man and he said he had a 303 brit. might get that. my friends got one and its the fastest bolt action ive ever used. plus ten rounds is ALOT for a centerfire bolt action magazine

That is a great gun. Truth be known the US used the 303 as a model and built the M1917 around that concept during WWI because they were in such a rush for rifles since our factories were already building them for the Brits it was just easier than designing a new gun. If you get it make sure it is checked by a gunsmith for headspacing and overall condition to make sure it is safe to fire.:cheers:

Yes. Plus any aged equipment, especially mechanical equipment can and will fail. If it hasn't been used much in 80 years or hasn't been well take care of then that could be exclamated. Most gunsmiths will do it just as a courtesy from what I hear but even if they charge it will be minimal and much better than a hospital visit or worse.

I already got one! a mossberg 270 i just want something historical and fun to shoot! its a little cheaper too.
