Arizona black bear - less than 10 yards.

Ran into this little guy on my way home from shooting last night. I was less than 100 yards from him for 15 minutes or so, much less at times... He was pretty curious, came almost right up to my truck to check me out. If he wants to live long enough to be a big bear he'd better get over that ****!

That was fun to watch. Hopefully it learned something.
Very cool

Youngster wasn’t quite sure what he/she had

You obviously had crispy creme I icing on some part of your anatomy
Very cool. The video reminds me of the forests in the Kaibab NF in Arizona.

Well... we're not allowed to bait them down here so you kinda gotta get creative...

Cool video, looks about the same size as a bear that was eating prickly pear fruit in the front yard of a Prescott Valley home last Monday. Not sure what part of Az you live in but my trail cams have been getting a lot of bear pics in 19A and 8 the last couple of weeks.
I’m south of Prescott in the groom creek neighborhood. I’ve seen some tracks and bear scat while running the dogs on the trails around our house but that was the first one I’ve seen in person in this area. Very close to the houses, probably less than 300 yards from the neighborhood as the crow flies.

We usually hunt 27 in the summer and see lots of them over there. Last summer I had a cub right under my feet on opening day of archery season.

I love seeing the bears. By far my favorite critter to see in the wild, although mountain lions are also exciting. Called in a wolf pack over in 27 years ago, that was pretty cool too seeing them run by at about 50 yards and then start howling at me.

I mountain bike the 396 trail near Groom Creek frequently, beautiful area! Must of been pretty exciting calling in the wolf pack, I've hunted Alaska quite a few times and have seen plenty of grizzly's around camp but not any wolves, with the wolf population growing here maybe I'll see some closer to home.
I’m really unsure where I stand on the whole wolf issue. They’re very cool animals and neat to see, but man do they get a lot of bad propaganda from the hunting community. I’ve had the opportunity to talk to a rancher and a couple guides in the white mountains about it and they are vehemently anti-wolf. All kinds of rumors over there about the fish and wildlife service poaching elk for the wolves to eat and wolves eating more cattle than deer, on and on.

I read an article a few years ago stating that some rancher over there was selling off the land his family had owned for generations because the wolves were eating so many of his cows and the feds will only reimburse them for ‘confirmed wolf predations’ most of which they were unable to confirm.
I also read the initial project proposal way back when and right in their own document they estimated the reintroduction would reduce the elk herd some 600 animals and the mule deer herd up to 6000. In my opinion, with all the writing about mule deer declining across the west and with Arizona having relatively few compared to other states, this is the wrong place to give up 6000 of them so that a couple of campers can hear wolves howl once in a blue moon. I’ve spent hundreds (maybe thousands) of hours hunting and scouting that area over the last decade and only scene them once. It seems like a very high price for very little payoff to me.

I figure it’s already done in the white mountains, so fine it is what it is. I sure hope they don’t push further with more introductions in other parts of the state though
