500 nitro express for sure! Them Illinois deer are tougher than a Trex! I hear a crossbow with rage tipped bolts even struggle to bring one down!

350 Legend seem to be very popular around here. We have a couple Ruger .44 magnum carbines that are a lot of fun to shoot deer with as well. For shots under 100 yards, I really like those smaller carbine style rifles because they are so easy to handle, especially if I'm hunting in a a hang on or climber.

I went 450 Nitro for @HarvDog because I know he's a reasonable guy, and doesn't want to mess with overkill. The 1200 yd effective range for the .450 Nitro is about right for a person of his uncanny marksmanship.

BTW, I'm just gonna throw this out there for the Illinois faithful........ But, when I see .450 & .500 Nitro express legal for deer hunting in IL, but a .308 Win, 30-06 Sprfld, or any of a number of bottleneck cartridhes are illegal, I just gotta say.... WTF!!! hahahaha. Illinois politicians at their best. dumbchiiits.

Be a heck of a deer drive round. No need to worry if you have some brush between you and the deer. Just punch a hole through it with a 600 gr projectile and then call a buddy over to put your shoulder back in place!

No, just open it up to all CF that are capable deer rounds.... What does 35 or larger do for anything? I can use a 35 Whelen, but not a 338 Asquare, that's dumb.

As long as it’s single shot but I think .35 caliber is a good stopping point if you gonna have .350legend on list was the only reason. But I guess worded better it could just be any production single shot rifle. But to me I think muzzle loader and shot gun or just full on rifle season is really all a state should enforce. And I think it be best if all public land was just bow and crossbow only. Maybe some special draw hunts for gun so that limits the amount of people on a place. A bunch of hunters with rifles on public land is the least safe thing I can imagine hunting wise in this part of country,I want no part of it

Just think there is no logical reason for allowing some cartridges, but not other ones just because the case has a bottle neck.

Also think, if you are going to allow large bore, then anything 6mm & up should be allowed.

I guess in the end, just don't like Illinois when it comes to guns period.

. Lot of pink and blue everywhere that it counts unfortunately. Rural counties have zero chance but even some of their rural areas are now pink,those need to be bright red for them to have any hope

Ruger American makes the 450Bush in a 22” Barrel, it’s not a ranch. Also eyeballing the 25” CVA Scout/Hunter. Reloading a break open single shot may be quicker than reloading a bolt gun.

I figure the 450s recoil is exaggerated because it’s being compared to the super light recoil of the 350. From my understanding the 450 is very similar to 50cal muzzleloader, 20ga or .308….depending on weight.
I’ll take the extra 50yds of confidence and not worry about quartering shots.
