Because of how much ammo is out there I would just get a .350 Legend and call it a day. That be what I got if I hunted Illinois
Looks good to me,and cheap which is the best part. I would mount a VX3HD 4.5-14x40 on top that dude an call it a day
As long as it’s single shot but I think .35 caliber is a good stopping point if you gonna have .350legend on list was the only reason. But I guess worded better it could just be any production single shot rifle. But to me I think muzzle loader and shot gun or just full on rifle season is really all a state should enforce. And I think it be best if all public land was just bow and crossbow only. Maybe some special draw hunts for gun so that limits the amount of people on a place. A bunch of hunters with rifles on public land is the least safe thing I can imagine hunting wise in this part of country,I want no part of itNo, just open it up to all CF that are capable deer rounds.... What does 35 or larger do for anything? I can use a 35 Whelen, but not a 338 Asquare, that's dumb.
Illinois is a bunch of communist, they can’t come up with any decent lawsJust think there is no logical reason for allowing some cartridges, but not other ones just because the case has a bottle neck.
Also think, if you are going to allow large bore, then anything 6mm & up should be allowed.
I guess in the end, just don't like Illinois when it comes to guns period.
. Lot of pink and blue everywhere that it counts unfortunately. Rural counties have zero chance but even some of their rural areas are now pink, those need to be bright red for them to have any hopelet's be fair, CHICAGO/Cook Co., most the rest of IL are full of decent likeminded people.
.450 bushmaster should be around the same as a 45/70. I believe they are pretty similar ballistically from my understanding. So long as the rifle isn’t lightweight it shouldn’t be that bad of recoil but I think you can get the Ruger with a Muzzle Brake on it which would definitely tame it down if soRuger American makes the 450Bush in a 22” Barrel, it’s not a ranch. Also eyeballing the 25” CVA Scout/Hunter. Reloading a break open single shot may be quicker than reloading a bolt gun.
I figure the 450s recoil is exaggerated because it’s being compared to the super light recoil of the 350. From my understanding the 450 is very similar to 50cal muzzleloader, 20ga or .308….depending on weight.
I’ll take the extra 50yds of confidence and not worry about quartering shots.
Wether people get killed or not a bunch of people with high powered rifles in hilly areas with a lot of hunting pressure is not safer than those same amounts of people not using high powered rifles. Plus it would help the deer in general with less pressure and control the amount of pressure on areas. Just cause someone doesn’t get shot and hit doesn’t mean bullets didn’t come wizzing by. I’ve had a squirrel hunter shoot right by me as a kid my dad had to start screaming so the guy didn’t shoot towards us again. It happens,I want no part of it anymore but to each their ownHow many people do you think have been accidently shot by a stranger on public land in the last 10 years? I can't swear to it but I bet the number is very close to zero. I read the incident investigation reports for many years and the vast majority of all accidents are self inflicted. The next most common is someone shooting someone in their party at close range while loading, unloading, etc. This big myth of people being shot by the orange army on public land is just that, a big myth.
That’s what I’m talking about I think gun hunter numbers on public should be reduced not the weapons. I know down here they have some places that are crazy with hunter numbers come thanksgiving week when rifle is open and everyone is off work. All the crazies are out in full force. Idk why they want to make it difficult to understand with rules with straight wall cartridges and all this red tape crap. Just make it easy and is it gun season or is it not,if so use any rifle you want. All these states start out with muzzle loader and shotgun, then it’s straight wall, then it’s some additional stuff, then it just turns into basically rifle season anyway so just call it that an be done or don’t allow anything but muzzle loaders with open sights and call it primitiveUnless they go archery only, I don't care if they are using a rifle that has a magazine, a single shot, a slug gun, or a 22lr.... the "danger exists"..... I don't honestly think it's any more dangerous to have people with bolt actions or lever guns over single shots..... And, statistics in MO sort of show that.
The whole straightwall/single shot deal is nothing but someone thinking they are making things more safe, when in reality they really arent. Read an article many years ago, that scientifically showed, that slugs are more apt to richochet than rifle bullets....
Here's a thought, how bout people follow the first rule of gun safety, and keep their muzzle pointed in safe direction, followed by identifying your target, and what may be behind it..... Gun Safety, Learn it, know it, live by it.
