The MDC pushes back the ML season and replaces it with a longer antlerless season right on top of the regular firearms seasons. Any thoughts?

Why even have and antlerless season? How can hunters not harvest the does wanted during the 11 day reg firearms season? Why so much continous pressure on the deer herd?

I come with some solutions:

Charge for the ML season tags (use the money to fund more agents). If you cannot afford another $17 tag work extra or don't hunt the ML season. Also, if MDC is to keep the antlerless season, charge for the antlerless season tags and put the money towards more AGENTS!

Eliminate the doe season period. It pains me, but open firearms on Thursday and end the wed before thanksgiving (2 days for saving 10 days, seems fair), rather than arming people in the woods...THE MAJORITY OF HUNTERS ARE NOT GOING TO LET A BIG BUCK PASS BY DURING DOE SEASON, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY CAN CALL IN IN DEC DURING ML! You say they are poachers, but whatever do not tempt peoples ethics, eliminate the opportunity for bad decisions.

Most will disagree vehemently but I am fine with that and would like to see/read everyone's opinions!

I agree on some points. I too think they should eliminate doe season entirely. I think the lower harvest numbers the last two years should show that the deer population is no longer growing....especillay when you consider that there are more hunters out every year than the previous year.

Open ML immediately after rifle season and run it for two full weeks. Still using regular rifle tags, I dont think people need to kill 2 bucks with guns (1 rifle and 1 ML).

The only thing I don't like about them moving the ML season is that it is so close to Christmas it makes it all but impossible for me to go up north for a hunting weekend. As far as charging for ML tags, I don't like that. If I want to shoot more doe in ML season sell me more bonus tags, but don't make me burn my any deer firearms tag when I still got ML season ahead of me.

If it was my state, and my decision..... I'd get rid of ML season all together. With the muzzleloaders today, all they are is a single shot rifle. Heck, that rifle that all the Realtree boys shoot is a single shot also!

and yes, I'd get rid of antler less season as long as there's still a 10 day rifle season. If they would shorten our rifle season or at least move it back a week or two, I'd be more supportive to a antlerless season.

I tend to agree, do away with Antlerless season, and make ML season for traditional cap and ball firearms only, with it's own tag.

Having Antlerless Season right after the general Firearms season makes no sense at all, the deer have went on full alert or underground, not gonna achieve the desired results with it this way anyway.

3 total bucks for everyone, 1 with bow only from Sept. 15th to opening day of rifle season, 2 with all legal methods allowed from then until Jan. 15th.:

there are PLENTY of deer to go around, for everyone who wants to hunt, the way they want to....

IMO the MDC has done a good job of managing the herd. I dont "study" this stuff, like you probably do, but it seems most folks are happy the way things are...

Personally, I hear more complaining about the ARs, but thats a whole nother can o worms.

I totally agree... I would like to see Missouri go to Illinouis an Iowa's hunting regulations except keep rifles in hand.

I'd like to see a 2 buck limit, but only 1 can be with a gun. Also, I think Non residents should be one buck and can have either an archery tag or a gun tag, but not both. I agree there is no need for doe season. You have 11 days to shoot does, if you choose not to, then tough. Once rifle season gets here, we have so much pressure, late season hunting is tough.

no way, we need the guns to control the deer populations, but the desired results can be obtained with about 15 gun days as opposed to th e current 40+. once again JMO

sw, i like the 2 bucks, but both could be bow killed anytime!

I agree with doing away with the antlerless season. I am glad they stopped it here in Dade county. I think ML season should be traditional cap and ball, no scopes, and be before regular firearm season like most other states do it. ML guys just get the left overs after firearm and antlerless seasons.

I like this years schedule just fine. My county doesn't have a doe season so it doesn't matter to me. Late muzzleloader is awesome for me because I'm off for xmas break and can hunt just about everyday if I wanted. :

Yes...I don't see a need for one here in Gasconade County. The fact that we have 10 deer in the freezer already between my parents and myself kind of takes the edge off wanting a doe season as well. I'd imagine plenty of does are taken during firearm and muzzleloader season.

Now down at the lease in Dent County, we can shoot all the does we want because the landowner has those donation tags that MDC gave him. We see so many does down there it's ridiculous. So far there has been 7 or 8 big does taken off the places and we still see them everywhere. I guess that's how he gets the tags because they are so thick.
