After-Hours Cooler on the West Side

My kid brother (who is very much a novice hunter) thinks he got a good hit on a buck tonight. If he finds it, anyone know of an after hours locker around KC?

The first thing to go rancid is blood.
The second is fat.
Ice and a tarp will do fine.
Put a bag in the ribcage and a bag between the hind quarters.
It will be fine.

Venison will take higher temps than beef or pork.

Several years ago I narrowed a doe just at last light. When arrow exited, a bit of guy plugged the exit hole so literally no blood trail.
Found her the next morning after she laid all night with innards intact. The temperature only dropped to about 77 degrees.
Field dressed, skinned and boned out and in to coolers on ice.
One of the most tender deer I ever killed.

That strange, one night a few years back I shot a button buck about 10pm in Feb and it was so cold you couldn't hold a spotlight out the window for more than about 5mins with gloves on. Shot was a little back because we were still rolling a little, and I didn't find it til about 9 the next morning. It was already green on the back straps.

This is why I always have 3 large coolers at the ready. Quarter it up and ice it down. Just as good as a cooler.

Oh yea.....great buck!

3 large coolers! You must kill some MONSTERS!! I get harassed all the time because I can bone out a deer and put it in a 30pak box. Course most of em have faint spots still.....

Good deer.

I usually try not to jinx myself by looking for a cooler/butcher before finding my deer. Glad he found it.

Talk about amateurism.

He saw it drop about 80 yards in the timber, just wasn't 100% sure it was down for the count. Again, he's a novice and this is only 2nd deer as an adult (hunted as a young kid, but played D1 football and got away from it for a long while). I was actually proud of him for backing out a while.
