Just wondering for all of you guys that use cameras...how many cameras per acres do you have? I have permission to hunt two different farms. One is 280 acres the other being 120 and I only have 4 cameras! I need a lot more I know, just curious as to how many you guys have for your land?

 I seem to remember Dr. Deer saying at a presentation he thought he could get a pretty decent look at deer on a property by using a camera over a pile of corn and cover a 100 acre area? I think that's what he said. Maybe deepwoodsgoathunter can remember better to confirm, or remember what he really said.

He didn't really mean seeing EVERY deer on the property though. I'm pretty sure he meant a decent idea of population, and bucks to does.

It was a lot larger number than what I would think it would be, but I don't put mine over bait either.

On his own place, he had 40ish cameras on 1,000 acres with no corn out on them. (one for every 25 acres) He was patterning deer movement, and what he had to show was simply AWESOME showing the lines of movement of specific bucks.

This year, I had three really good cameras (finally!) running on 60ish acres of woods surrounded by hundreds of acres of crop ground, and I'm pretty confident from July to the end of September, I captured every 2 1/2 year old plus buck on each of those three cameras at least once. Now.......that's not saying a saw all of them though! I'd never believe that.

What I learned from this, is next summer, I'm going to leave one camera on a good spot in that wood lot, and I'm going to be taking the other two to other small slivers of woods that are on the edges of the property I have permission to hunt on. I hope to capture some different bucks on film this way.

I read an article in a older north american whitetail mag recently where dr.deer said that they got a pic of every deer on a ranch ( cant remember size of ranch) running one cam over corn for every 80 acres. Deer were all ear tagged so they know they got em all.

one camera will cover about 125 acres with a bait pile. That is what we use down here at the university of TN to determine deer densities

Another thing to consider is the terrain and cover on the farm you are talking about. For instance if the place is mostly open with just a small amount of cover you can really narrow down the travel routes and get by with fewer cameras.

I don't have a trail camera, but if I did, I'd have to place it in certain areas, otherwise, I'd get lots of pics of cows.
