hey jeremy....teh escort i got off you finally laid down on me. i think it has some kind of electrical prob. driving home on x-mas eve and the door chimes started going off...then everytime the windshield wipers would move the tach would jump way up ...then finally it died at a stoplight and would not turn over click or anything. got it jumped and running and got home but she is dead in the driveway. too cold to mess with it now. hopefully i can get it running cause i loved the MPG:boohoo:
My Escort has had problems with bad grounds. That caused the transmisssion to get stuck in 3rd. The shops and Ford dealer could never figure it out. Lack of ground was actually providing a voltage signal to the computer telling it was in drive and reverse at the same time. I had to buy a Rotunda (Ford) transmission tester off ebay to finally diagnose the problem. I'd check grounds on weird stuff first
The chime could be be a little white switch part of the ignition switch bent or deformed not making good contact. Been there done that.
Escorts are know for dropping the hardened steel valve inserts from the aluminum head. It could mean a lot of new parts if was driven more than a few seconds after the "event".
