Only takes one pellet, but that “pattern” wouldn’t do it for me.
I would also be worried about injuring/dropping multiple birds because its so open.

Dude, look at the pics, the 410 TSS is the exact load he is using.Check out the 410 TSS turkey loads. Browning and Federal make them. They're not cheap but the reviews are good. I have a buddy that is going to use them with an 870 youth 410.
I'd really like to see a comparison to TSS 9's from a .410 at 30 yards vs. 20 ga. 2 3/4" 6's or 7 1/2 game loads. I may be surprised, but from the looks of buckbuster's modified Rossi .410, I won't be.My .410 full choke with TSS 9's. is an easy 30 yd gun. It was a 15-17 yd gun shooting lead 6's.
The mossberg 510 mini is the smallest youth shotgun made, I think. Of course there is a recoil tradeoff, but like said, they'll never notice on live game.A 20 ga is a lot better gun and youth models are easy for kids "big enough" to hunt to handle. I always had my youth hunters practice with 2 3/4 field loads and the first time they ever shot a magnum 3" was at a turkey, they never noticed the recoil. The youth 870 is in my opinion the finest kids small person gun out there for the money and they can grow into it and with it, although an autoloader though more pricey would have less recoil even yet.
I wasnt endorsing a .410 per se as much as I was saying those TSS loads are bad arse in both my .410's but both have full chokes.I'd really like to see a comparison to TSS 9's from a .410 at 30 yards vs. 20 ga. 2 3/4" 6's or 7 1/2 game loads. I'd also spend the money on TSS loads for the 20 ga to buy a little more yardage just in case.I wasnt endorsing a .410 per se as much as I was saying those TSS loads are bad arse in both my .410's but both have full chokes.
If I had a choice I'd take a 20 ga if I was setting a kid up and the kid could handle the gun. I'd also prefer a more open choke and limit the yardage. I've heard of too many clean misses at close range with the super tight turkey chokes.
My adult son and I have killed a few with .410's just to add a little variety to our hunts. Since TSS ammo came to be, killing one with a .410 isn't a big deal
This is where I am on this topic as well. I will say with my buddies kids, when we thought they were too young we just put them on a 20 popper with 2 3/4 loads to practice a couple times, slipped that mag shell in there for the hunt and they never even knew it. The oldest boy flat stoned a jake at 35 yds with a 3" 6 shot and never felt the recoil.I'm sure I'll get a beatdown...but if the child is so small/weak/young that anything over a 410 is too much, maybe ought to wait a year or two. Though maybe someone will come out with one with a pacifier attachment so you can start them real young.
