I was hunting an oak flat that I had hiked in to by way of a wet weather creek and some side hilling. I got there cause my good friend @radioactive gave me a heads up. I killed a decent 9 point that day.

Today I'm on a different oak flat. Since that day I've learned to find that feature on a topo map and so far, hunting them have provided me with great success.

I camped through the storm last night and hit the trail by 545. I put on my waders and hiked in 3/4 of a mile up a flowing creek. It was a hearty walk. I've already passed a doe on this flat, and I'm hoping it provides me with the same success as last years flat did.

Thanks Radio for teaching me to look for this terrain feature. It may have turned me into a bit of a one trick pony, but dang it, the trick works.

Just tells me that this spot gets some pressure. He seems like a smart fella. He took his climbing steps or sticks out with him.

Just got busted by 3 turkeys that came in quiet as little mice. At least one was a good Tom. They were straight behind me.

Hip waders and trekking poles!
That doesn't make it sound any less dangerous. Hope some knows where you plan on hunting and what your path in was. One slip in that creek and you're in trouble.

Good deal! Hope you're covered in anus oil so the deer won't wind you.

I'm an OnX guy. I just find old growth benches. Usually 1/2-3/4 of the way up a ridge. I check to see if there are recent burns or logging (I avoid both) , find the widest topo line gap in that zone and figure out a good wind and mark it. So far it's working well!

I've got a buddy who camped with me and an "oh sh!t" time. Plus he has my OnX login and is briefed where I'm hunting.
