well guys I am goin hog hunting in febuary and have planed on using my marlin 30/30, with hornady 160 grain lever everloution. I feel that i can and would take a shot on a whitetail at 150 to 200 yards. but I have been reading about the shield on a hog and wondering if I should carry something a little stiffer? whats your thoughts?

that should be plenty of gun....heard many stories of guys using alot lighter round.....

My buddy has killed two nice hogs with his 30-30, like any gun, hit them right.......

30-30 will kill a hog, no problem.
Forget about the shoulder/shield and shoot them in the ear...no ruined meat, and they drop dead.

What range are you shooting? If you're talking past 50 yards or so and sitting, then yeah, something else might be in order, but the 30-30 will get the job done.

A 30-30 will go right through the shield without any problems.
