no experience but with those attributes sound like the perfect weapon caliberHey guys,
Just acquired a new to me.257 wby. Any of you shoot one? Likes/dislikes. Favorite loads? Seems like .30-06 power with .243 type recoil
It's a fantastic ultra long range caliber. Like @h_callahan said, factory ammo can be super high. I shoot the Weatherby ammo with a 100gr Barnes ttsx bullet, and it's almost $100/box. Hornady makes some for around $50, but I haven't shot them yet. Bullets will almost always be the cheapest part of hunting, but sighting in gets expensive. If you're hunting inside 300yds, there may be more economic choices. But between 300-500yds, it really shines. Zeroed at 300 it's 7" low at 400 and 15" low at 500, with a 26" barrel. Most Vanguards have 24" barrels I think. Recoil is almost the same as a 270, less than an '06. Quality optics make the long shots easy. Mine is setup for antelope hunting, and it's almost cheating. FYI it's one of, if not the, flattest shooting bullets available for deer sized game. I get reliable performance from the Barnes bullets way out yonder. I've shot through an antelope broadside at 563yds, and the only bullet I've ever recovered entered the front point of an antelopes shoulder, crushed much bone, and came to rest just under the hide above it's hip, about 3ft of penetration, at about 525yds. The best part about 257Bee is you get to watch the animal fall, then you hear the bullet hit. I've killed 6 antelope and one big whitetail buck with it, from 15yds out to 563, with most over 400yds, and nothing has ever taken one step. You will be amazed with its on-game performance. Be sure and let us know how it performs.Hey guys,

You've never met his neighbor.:bs:
I've been shooting a long time and have never seen anyone that can do this with any gun, that is record smashing bench rest shooting.
True enough, but I would pay to see it!You've never met his neighbor.
