Savage! I have a Savage model 110 7mm magnum that I bought in 1993. With Winchester ballistic silvertips it will shoot 3 shot groups at 100 yards that you can cover with a dime, no bs. Ex-girlfriend had a Savage 243 that shot just as good, with less recoil:D. The Savage rifles have awesome barrels and are very good for the price. Chris

ooh, tuffy. i have both savages and remingtons and a couple others but here is my final take. the 700 remington is about the most solid action one could ever ask for. many of rifles are built upon it. my remingtons are pretty guns and it irritates me that my savages shoot better than my remingtons. not enough for any deer to notice but enough for me to notice. for shooters i would go with the savage (best trigger on the market imo) for looks and resale and a very solid rifle, remington.

bottom line, you won't go wrong either way

I've got a model 7 in 7mm-08, no doubt, it's a shooter. 7mm-08 is such a nice caliber for whitetails as well.

I can't really give a good review on the Savage's cause I don't own any.

Had this old gal since 1971 and she will still drive tacks at 100 yards with my hand loads. She is a Remington 700 plain ADL model. Nothing fancy and still has the stock trigger.

Here is what she will do and can do even better.

I disagree, Howa 1500 best shooting gun out of the box. My .17 Savage is nice and shoots great, nothing like the 270 Howa though.
