What powder do you fellas load in your 223 Rems?

Varget and H 4895

Here are a few of my loads;

25.0 gr varget
68GR Hornady BTHP
Rem 7 1/2 BR primer

same as above w/ 24.2gr of H4895


Keeping in mind I shoot a 1/7" twist. I don't reload too many light bullets for my .223's

Guess I could have been more specific as well.

Varget-25.0 grains

H 4895-26.0 grains

Winchester Small Rifle primer, 60 grain V-Max bullet

Benchmark, H-335, 748, H-4895, Varget works well enough, Reloader 15 is good, 3031, H-322, just about anything faster than Varget or 4064 works well enough.


Which bullet weights are you planning to use the most?

shoots clean, consistent, and is fairly versatile with other calibers as well!

Rifle was a 24" barreled wilson, they did not give twist rate.

I was thinkin about starting at 23gr's and moving up from there....:thinking:

Looks like I'm running hot. I have used that load for at least 10 years. I will look through my old books this weekend and try to find out where I came up with that. Thanks!

My 55 gr load comes from the 5th Edition Loading Guide for Accurate Smokeless Powders- a freebee given to me by Mike Graf in 1992.
For AA2230 powder in the 223 Remington and 55 gr bullets a starting load of 24.6gr is listed along with a max load of 27.3gr for a velocity of 3450 from a 24inch tube.

Looking to my Accurate Loading Guide Number Two-published in 2000. 223 Remington with a 55 gr Nosler SPBT using AA2230 starting load is 23.4gr, max load is 26.0 for a velocity of 3216 from a 24 inch tube.

Eighteen years later Max load is 25.0 grains, only 0.4gr more than the old starting load. I didn't know I was living dangerously.

Just depends what i want,if i want speed and safe pressue i use TAC Powder with 55 grn or 62 grn pills,But AA2230,H335,BLC2,3031,Varget,4064,4895 also works very well,But another powder i use for plinking is RE7 but it is a very fast powder and you have to be very safe as you can double charge a case very easy if your not 120% paying attention.
