You are invited to historic Roaring River State Park on Saturdays May 20 and Aug 19 for Kids Free Fishing Days! Youth have the opportunity to fish all day for free and connect with nature through participation in a variety of activities. Everyone 15 and younger will be able to get tags for free the day of the event.

A section of the river from the first low-water crossing up toward the hatchery will be specially designated for youth to fish in throughout the day. Adults will not be allowed to fish by themselves in this area. Parents and guardians are welcome to help the children as needed, but only one pole between the helper and the kid may be used at any time. Volunteers will be present to help in any way possible. A free lunch of hot dogs, chips and drink will be provided by the park concessionaire in the lower section of the CCC Lodge.

So, come out to beautiful Roaring River State Park to connect with nature and watch the kids catch some fish. The event will be held rain, snow or shine, assuming conditions are deemed safe. Fishing hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. in May and 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in August.

This is a joint event held in conjunction with Missouri Department of Conservation. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the park office (417-847-2539), MDC hatchery (417-847-2430) or park store (417-847-4971).

We ended up going for awhile . Caught our fish and left . It’s a great deal! Saw a young man catch this 6.6 23.5” probably won the big fish View attachment 239941
If you took that pic, I had to have been standing just off to the left because I watched them measure and weigh that one. I guess I should have paid better attention to my surroundings. I would be shocked if that one didn't take the big fish prize.

I took a nephew and his buddy. His buddy caught his limit and my nephew caught four. My brother-in-law didn't mention that my nephew had never used spinning gear before so he was struggling to get used to it and it caused him to miss several fish or he would have had his limit as well.

Yea we were standing there when he hauled it up to the weigj station. Guess I wasn’t looking at people either lol. My grandson said let’s go back and fish some after he saw that fish !
we had one that struggled too with a spinner . Then a family of 4 caught 4 fish each and kept culling trying for a tagged Fish I assume . They slowed the hole down because the were hooking almost every cast with some sort of split tail jig . @seth_turner_04
My nephew's buddy was good enough with the spinning gear to use a jig and he definitely did better than my nephew who was stuck using bait. Every kid I saw that was able to use a jig was hammering the fish. Those trout love to chase!
Yea they released a bunch for the kids. If I didn't have so much going on, I would have liked to have gone back and fished myself on Sunday. That's the best day of the year beyond opening day for adults to fish. The stream is loaded after kids day.
