Plenty of browsing going on even with lots of chinkapin oak acorns in the area.
What is that plant Phil? I cut a few in a shooting lane a few years ago and the deer hammer all the shoots where I cut it.
Top one is giant ragweed, bottom is a deformed black walnut.
First hunt of the year starting now, hard to pass up this cool of a day in early October.
I agree. We shooting slick heads or antler hunting on this fine day?
Either or, never saw any but found a great spot for an east wind, next to the lake for easy access.
Bur oak and red oak acorns dropping at this spot. This red is leaning the right way and heavy trail is on east side of the tree.
Here is the trail roughly 10 yards east of that tree.
Good luck. Takes time to learn a new spot for every wind direction.
Then comes the tweaking and re-tweaking
I've measured this spot out and its 44 acres, with access for every wind direction. Figure my best odds are really learning as much as possible about it since mature bucks are definitely here during the rut from pics and stand sightings.
Not much to hand stands in this spot, but it has the stem density I really like to hunt and the deer bed on top the ridge in the middle. Access points are pretty flawless in my past experiences.
SSE wind tonight, hunting north side of spot. Wind is blowing into a yard that's full of ripe apples falling....I'm liking my chances here!
That Muddy and quick sticks are great for less than straight trees man!
How'd last night's hunt go???
May have one down....all the fat has me concerned maybe I shot him in the brisket. Sure looked like an exit hole in the bread basket and thump sounded good when it hit him. Going back to look in the morning as the blood trial went from that to a drop here and there in 40 yards. Never bled for the first 20 yards either.
They r fantastic! I'm buying a few more sticks to go up a little higher
Good luck. Hope you have a short track to a dead deer.
Sure seems to be low brisket. Found a few white hairs on arrow and he was just dripping for a good 600 yards till blood stopped and he crossed over to state park land....better luck next time.
Checking cams today. Perfect conditions to get in there undetected. High winds in the right direction
Good winds , not so good temps if it's like it is here. Good luck. :
Found my west wind stand site. This is within 30 yards of where the 160 8 was last year. Moved a cam to this spot.
Hang it and hunt it man!
160 8, lets see pics of that guy!!
