....for some that either fish'd with me or read my threads in trout forum....im obviously ate up with trout fish'n.My trout fish'n world is really a small box that encompasses southern momo and northern arky but by sheer luck this small box holds some of the best waters [to me] in the world.....tailwaters.Tailwater rivers created by huge hydroelectric dams for power that release water from impoundments[large lakes] that is to cold for native species [bass/panfish] to proliferate as they once had in undammed, free flowing river....hence the stocking of cold water species...trout.
Now as most here know...I am unbias'd to techniques used to harvest/kill/C&R any and all game as long as it makes you happy and done legally and am as comfortable snagging/using bait as I am using a down rigger/fly fish'n.So's....
This year I think would be a good year for the world renowned shad run on taney/bull shoals/norfork tailwaters. An incurrence that stun's/kills shad on impoundments when water reach's 40-49 degrees and shad get flushed with releases from turbines of dams, creating frenzy of over indulgence to trout...be it major run[10+ miles] or minor run[mile or so below dam]The extreme cold winter is setting this up as it doesn't happen every year[major run] because bull shoals/norfork/taney lake's doesn't have optimum conditions[water temp+heavy release+shad die off] for a [major]run every year...although[minor] runs are common.
It would also be a good year to check out norfork river[maybe the best trout water in Midwest/world] because rumor has it that federal hatchery on norfork is slated to close in 2015 due to federal cuts/pricy needed repair.Although arky has state hatchery,it's doubtful that it be enough to sustain pressure norfork gets ....this can be take'n as a canary in coal mine or speculation....jus say'n.
As for rest of forecast...trout parks will be trout parks.I would hope bennitts new hatchery would start producing bigger trout by now with their new hatchery....because average size sure went down last couplo.
...and small intimate creeks will not be reported because we all know they are to fragile, scenic for internet reports and are best left for hard work'n,eco minded fishers and gawdforbid the mass's.

yep,me neither but ive heard taney has one.Id rather fish taney in the fall than anywhere else.Seen some of the biggest fish ive ever saw swimming around outlets in October and November.Taney and norfork has shad runs but white has always been known for the biggest/best at least in my circle.Norfork is spitting out shad as we speak....ive heard
Ive been fish'n shad runs for 20-25 years on the white and only hit a major one ....maybe 5 times.Sometimes im a week early or a week late. All it takes to miss it is,they turn the generation off.Always a crap shoot. Some times it'll be in early febuary, sometimes in late march. You really gotta have a lot of things go right at same time, water temps, plenty of water to be released, cold temps in southwest U.S.[where most of power goes as I understand] just to start with.
You really only gotta experience one to get hooked....to daydream, anticipate another.Ive chased the run for 8-10 miles in a boat, fish turning on whole way.Ive fished all night, went and got breakfast, drove 20 miles downstream, and caught rising shad filled water. We've boated a 20lbs brown, had consecutive 3 cast catch's of 9,7,5 pounders, nights of couplo 7s and a 5....not even to mention break offs or non stop action.Seriously will keep your attention and your blood flow'n.
...while most hate the thought of this cold winter...I just cant help myself:rof2: So until than im cleaning box's,organize'n,stock'n and wash'n surely the most dirty trout vest ever worn...3-4 times!

....not really,6 1/2 medium-medium heavy graphite rod,6ibs.florocarbon.I wouldn't be afraid to go smaller....with a jig.I usually got 2 rods set up,maybe one with crank, jig, one with white river rig and plastic worm on Aberdeen/salmon egg hook that can be switched to bait later for eaters with 4lbs maxima/trilene xl.....I got extra spools for all my reels.I bring a ton of stuff...to much, but you never know what water your gonna be fish'n.Low water/no geny...fly rod/ultra light reel with 2lbs test.High water most bass spinning rigs will do.i know the locals fish heavier rigs, bigger baits.....but ive had my best luck on bigger fish going with light line.I like get'n into my backing, palm'n my spool, hearing my ultralight sing for hundreds of yards down river.....while look'n surprised at me buddy. You outta come wit me some time kedro....I can make sum funny faces.:rof2::rof2::rof2:
