Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying a small Jon boat for some fishing around southeast Missouri. I’m looking for something that I can use mostly myself for a few years and upgrade to something larger later on if I see that I’m going to be using it a lot. I would mostly be fishing small lakes, with the biggest probably being Wappapello Lake.
I’ve been leaning toward the 12ft size because it seems to be the easiest for one guy to use. It would be easier to store at my house and I could probably be perfectly fine with a 7-10hp engine. Overall cheaper and probably could get most of my money back after a few years. But I read a lot of forum posts with people saying a 12/36 is not much more stable than a canoe. I just can’t seem to see how they would be that tippy. I’d ultimately like to put a solid floor in the bottom so I could stand while fishing for a while.
I have very minimal gear, so I’m not too concerned with going over weight. Something with a max weight of 450-500lbs would be plenty for what I’m looking for.
Anyone have any advice?
