This is the buck I took with a bow on November 6th. I boiled the head for about half an hour in about 2 gallons of water and a half cup of arm and hammer washing soda after I fleshed it out by hand (and gave the lovely maggots about a week to get rid of everything I couldn't).

After boiling, I covered the skull with some of Van ****'s basic white / hydrogen peroxide mix and let it sit for about 20 hours before brushing and rinsing it off. I sprayed a light coat of clear lacquer and put him on a nice piece of wood on the wall.

[rquote=1497890&tid=104541&author=Viper Sniper]Sweet!:2thumbsup: So white it bout blinded me! Sometimes we make ours more ivory colored which is also pretty cool.

It does look insanely white in the pics, but I will say it isn't quite that white in person. Our camera has a hyperactive flash that can probably get me in trouble for spotlighting deer if I were taking pictures at night with the dang thing. Heck, it even makes our walls look like they are white, and their not. Weird I know!

What do you do to get your skulls more of an ivory color?

So the European mounts have the wood backing angled out some? I didn't know that, huh. Well good to know as I got a 10point that was out side its ears so I am thinking of mounting it some way but ze budget is getting in the way:whinging:

There are all kinds of different types of wall panels for european mounts. Some have the angle, some are just a single panel that rests flat against the wall. Van ***** has a few different ones, and I have recently seen them in the Bass Pro and Cabela's catalogs as well. I think they only have one style and it is the one angled off the wall, similar to mine.

Well we let it sit in Borax a couple times through the process of doing the mount instead of bleaching it. Never used Arm&Hammer though.
Some even just come out more ivory colored after you get done boiling, scraping, etc. Dont really know why.

By the way did you use a pressure washer to help get some of the flesh off?

I just used plain ole water when I boiled. Boiled twice, and power washed after each boil, and I really like it. It`s not that white, but it looks more natural to me. I just got my plaque today, and hopefully will have it mounted in a day or 2 and get pictures up. I`m just not a fan of the really bright white. I do however like the idea of some satin finish.

Yours really looks great, and I wish mine were as big as yours, mine was just a little acorn 8.

European mount is actually just the official name for "skull mount". Has nothing to do with the angle on the wood mount. A European mount is basically just when you flesh it out down to the skull and leave it like that...
