I'm meeting some guys in Jeff around noon on Wednesday and heading for the James. Gonna get out during the daylight, do some graphing and maybe catch a few crappie/whites before it gets dark and then be out at midnight to hit it hard. I don't expect us to catch then anywhere near as well as we have the last two openers, but I'm sure we'll catch a couple. Taking a couple newbies so the goal is to get them to each catch at least one and preferably more. I'll probably be on LoZ or the lower Osage this weekend.
I spoke to BackyardBandit and he mentioned he was going to be u there with you guys this weekend. Dad wants to go somewhere so depending on when you guys head back, I may bump in to some of you if we head to LoZ.
Well I wasn't until about 5 minutes ago. I decided to give them a call and see if they had any cancellations and luckily they did! We'll be there Wednesday and Thursday night and heading back Friday.
I was below bagnel dam a few years ago catfishing and kept getting bites every 5 seconds and finally figured out it was spoonbill running into my line haha, I could literally net one anytime I wanted and after that I lost all desire to go snagging lol, I do love walleye fishing this time of year below TRUMAN
They can be annoyingly thick below the dam at times. The last time I went up there fishing was for crappie last spring. You literally could not make a cast across the current and retrieve it without hooking in to a paddlefish. We had to stick with vertical jigging and even then we still had several swim in to our lines and get hooked up. Throwing a spoon or crankbait for whites and hybrids is even worse!
We caught 11 on Thursday. The Biggest was 72 pounds and we also had two tagged fish. Two of the guys that went had never gone before and each landed three. Water temp was 48-52 degrees on the James.
My upload speed at the house sucks so I just attached the three biggest. These were 53, 67 and 72 pounds.
We were on LOZ and hammered them. Caught 10-11 on Friday and 14-15 on Saturday. Biggest was only 53. One banded male. Water temps are around 44-45.
Caught some decent catfish from the dock too on fresh shad.
I went snagging once in my life and about 10 min into ripping a bare hook through the water with hopes of hitting a random fish I felt like such an idiot I hung it up and said take me to the ramp. Good luck to all you guys that like to do it though.
