According to DNR data from last week, the total crossbow kill was 47,086 deer in Wisconsin, while archers (using compound bows, recurves and stick bows) registered 45,034.
And the combined bow buck kill of 53,154 in 2017-'18 surpassed the previous high of 51,823 set in 2015-'16.
Hunters using crossbows took 27,371 bucks and 19,715 antlerless deer this season, while archers registered 25,783 bucks and 19,251 antlerless.
The 2017-'18 data reflect registrations as of Jan. 10, three days after the primary crossbow and archery deer seasons ended.
Over the last four years, the crossbow deer harvest in Wisconsin has gone from 26,891 deer (15,768 bucks and 11,123 antlerless) in 2014-'15, to 34,094 (20,594 and 13,500) in 2015-'16, to 39,776 (23,562 and 16,214) in 2016-'17 to 47,086 (27,371 and 19,715) this season.
I have a vault under ground that I keep a paper copy of all of my online account information in. Going back decades. I have so many online personas that they could rewrite the mental health books if they ever found me.
I'm not sure Narf was ever banned, and to my knowledge never even close to being banned, but when he posts a relative article he get a push back from ratser??? SMH, haha.
Trad to compound was a natural progression, but archery to xguns very unnatural IMO! The only thing archery relaater is the arrow or bolt, so it is not surprising that hunter's would flock to a gun bow which is far easier! But, whatever it takes in this everyone is equal society! I'm not strong enough , not big enough, not willing to limit my range.... archery is like youth sports now, everyone must be includes and get the participation trophy!
Nothing is surprising in that article, and with the rate the blowguns technology is increasing (no longer, HEAVY, CUMBERSOME, unmanuevrable, and what ever other lies that the supporters said) and making it beyond easy, an infant could shoot one accurately!

Thought you guys all agreed, xguns would have a spike at first, then there would be so many for sale and everyone would go back to compounds? Maybe MO will be different,.....especially as fast and light and maneuverable the xgun are getting... so difficult
So lets see.... Missouri just set an archery buck harvest record in a year when archery buck harvest shoukd have been down via the calendar falling with 5 fewer days than possible to hunt before firearms. Weve now diverted from the norm 2 years in a row on that trend. Missouri is now killing 135000 antlered bucks out of a currently smaller population of deer than we were killing about 20-30k fewer out of just 5-6 years ago. Hmmmmmm..... and buck harvest was supposed to go DOWN..... hmmmmmm
Wonder which method wounds more deer? Is it better to have a crossbow hunter kill one deer or a compound or traditional hunter wound multiple deer and then kill one?
Here's the reality of hunting deer. There are D-bags using all sorts of methods, taking unethical shots with each one. Will there be with xbows, yup, rifles yup, compounds yup, trad bows yup, atl-atl's yup. The problem isn't the equipment one takes afield, it's the hunters that take them afield and don't take the time or consideration to know how and when to take an ethical shot. If I pick up an xbow, it's not to extend my range, or so I can take bad angle shots. It's just a different way to kill a deer. An ethical hunter waits for the right situation in which to trigger their shot, no matter what method they are using.
I never heard them say that overall kill wouldnt go up... who said that? They said it would increase opportunities. Why wouldnt more opportunities translate into increased harvest?
Thought they insinuated that if a hunter only kills so many deer and if they killed with xbow, they would be less likely to kill with firearms! Like you, I thought that was an absolutely asinine way to think when adding crossbows
Show me the words, MDC wants lower buck harvest, in their state goals.
I see they want to manage for a better sex ratio, age structure, and allow more opportunity. You are extrapolating that to mean they want to lower absolute buck harvest from a year to year basis.
Do you think the herd size is increasing since the EHD breakout years? Do you think the lower doe harvest is not of interest? Do you think the buck/doe harvest ratio is not of interest? Or, do you think 500 bucks killed prior to 100,000 bucks being killed is the all important stat?

How many bucks 1.5yr or older do you think were in the states herd on September 14 2016, the first year that crossbows were allowed? Anybody care to guess?
Last season youth hunters tagged 8402 antlered bucks, this year 11427. That's a 3000 deer increase. 3x what increas in archery was...... I don't think introuduction of xbows had anything to do with that either.... hahaha
I am curious as to how the Missouri numbers are stacking up. What will the MDC do? Ever what the decision, it will have dollars in mind, over management. Of that, you can be assured.
