Nebraska trip 2017 is in progress. We got up here Saturday evening . We went on a quick hunt in my favorite little canyon. Saw 4 hens and a Jake early and nothing showed on their way to a roosting spot on the neighbors.

Sunday morning we set up in gamegetters Merriam's spot . Nothing gobbled close but we called a fired up eastern in from a long way off. I shot him because Dale wanted a Merriam's.

Saturday evening we moved west a 1/2 mile to get close to a spot a distant bird gobbled that morning. We wound up calling in the Merriam's Dale wanted.

This morning was a late start and a string of wrong moves after discovering Dale had lost his turkey vest off the cart the night before. Got to the area we were headed and the birds were already down. Busted them.

Made a setup for tomorrow morning and are back out hoping we have picked a spot to coax some of this mornings birds in if they return this evening.

One landowner said that 10 days or so ago they got a foot of heavy wet snow. Birds are not in some of their normal areas so we have been working to find birds.

Fun so far. I just hope the weather remains kind.

Wish I was out there with you. Cograts on the birds so far and good luck on the rest of your trip. Crazy how the colors vary so much in the same area.
Did that darker bird gobble like an Eastern by chance?

Not really. He came in silent and strutting part of the way.

Must be nice to be old and kind people put ya in a blind right on top of birds and all you gotta do is make up a tale of how hard you worked to get a bird.

    Not bad still ole man.

Quite a show so far this morning. No shots at longbeards . Jake's came in and picked on my dekes for a 1/2 an hour. One spent 30 minutes on top my lay down hen. Lots of gobbling . A real fun hunt.:

You should have picked up squidhunter on your way. He's in Ashland, NE on some leadership training with the Army.
