I would certainly wait for a close in shot, 10 or 15. Upon looking at that point again, it appears that your tip is just about as wide as your thumbnail. Will take a pretty precise shot with very little room for error!!

I sure hope it works out. Probably a beam of light from the heavens and angels singing once I lay hands on my deer.

I've never taken a shot at a deer with a bow at that distance. Maybe when I'm older and can't pull back a bow I may go with a crossbow. I hear tell that they are good out past that 50 yard mark.

But you said that those shots excited you.

I did?? A 50 yard shot with a longbow is something that I would never do.

Its the width I would be most concerned with. Less than an inch wide is going to require precision. Good luck!

I got up enough nerve to give my first two flint tipped arrows a test out in the garage in a foam target at 8 yards (farthest I can shoot in the garage). Both faired well in their maiden flight. Flew straight and penetrated pretty good. Pulling them out was a test on the sinew hafting on the arrowhead to the wooden shaft of the arrow. So far so good. testing 1.jpg
