It takes 90-110 days for black oil sunflowers to mature so if you plan to dove hunt over them plant them no later than May 1st-15th depending on the variety you choose

We planted our Sunflowers along with Corn & Milo little over a week ago Saturday....be sure to plant plenty because the Deer like to eat them when they first make a head on them.

Our sunflowers were going to be planted on a new piece of ground we just bought but do to the closing date and the rain we have been unable to get them in the ground. So is it worth putting them in yet or just leave it go till next year or do we have another option for something to pull in the doves ?

Various millets work well for doves. Depending on variety, time to maturity varies. I've done browntop before.

Plant some wheat with a few strips of sunflowers . In Sept brush hog the wheat and hide in the sunflowers and shoot doves.:

Yep but with the closing date and the rain the guy that farms it for us hasn't been able to get to our sunflowers let alone his beans. So maybe we will try some millet and some deer food plots. Otherwise we probably won't hunt this farm much this year anyways.

I'd still plant them. They may not be ready to hunt opening day, but they will have seed a few weeks into the season.

Plant them with some buckwheat or milo along the outside, it will mature faster.
