Default Southern Missouri Deer Hunting

Hi, I'm currently from SE Kansas and might be moving to the Springfield, MO area for my job. I was wondering if anyone on here could tell me how the deer hunting is around that area?

Thanks for the replies

There are decent numbers depending on the area you choose to hunt---hunting a decent buck will be a chore and require lots of field time and some decent property.

Best of luck your way!

Thanks for the quick responses! I know its not like Kansas in southern Missouri, but I just wondered how good it was. I hope to have some property of my own in 4 or 5 years and plan on doing some serious deer management and raising up some nice deer if its possible.

I feel the deer hunting is decent. What we lack in the wall mounter category is made up with other outdoor opportunities. Last I checked, there aren't to many trout streams, big lakes, and smallie streams up north.

The biggest draw back to the southern part of the state is its mostly rocks--not many crops at all so the deer as a rule dont get very big and if you are going to hunt antlers---then you will need to get to the middle of the state or farther north but there are good numbers here. Lots of good eatin does just not a very big size to them at all....

That's good that there is some good eatin does! I always get me a doe to put in the freezer here. Do you have to shoot a doe before you can kill a buck in Missouri? And I'm sure I'll love the fishing in Southern Missouri, how is the trapping? Plus I can always come back home and shoot a big buck if I don't get the opportunity to over there. Thanks for all the info

I live in sw mo and kill me goats in se kansas if that tells u anything. And yes i am the dreaded trophy hunter. It goes on the wall or it walks. Course unlike most trophy hunters i don't try ti spoon feed what i do down other peoples throats

You'll have all the trapping you want I'm sure if you are willing to knock on doors.
