And there's a whole bunch of the rub. It's not well known what it actually is, where it came from, how long it's been around, what's the normal progression in the wild, how it's actually transmitted in the wild, and if it can be transmitted to humans in the long term like CJD.

FROM THE TIME OF ARISTOTLE MAN HAS LOOKED FOR WAYS TO CLASSIFY THINGS WHERE HE CAN UNDERSTAND THEM.
A problem becomes apparent when disease is classified into such understandable units. In the case of humans they call a form variant.
The question is what causes a prion.IT IS IN THE STOMACH THAT RAW FOOD IS BROKEN DOWN INTO FORMS THE BODY USES. that is where a normal protein cell gets kidnapped into a prion.
TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING WE HAVE TO UNDERSTAND DIGESTION. we have to find what microbes are being used to break the food down. We have to know what microbes the deer are evolved to use. What will be found in the end is a new microbe that is causing the problem.
Other theory's on cwd say it is a copper deficiency causing it another theory lays the blame on manganese. We have put the target of mineral sites on the old barn but in reality we do not know that mineral sites are not more the savior then the villain.
We do not know whether minerals might help instead of hinder, we do not understand how the microbs needed in digestion are obtained .WITH KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE BIOLOGICAL PROCESS it might be possible to have a good outcome. Understanding starts with taking samples to find the normal.

I don't have any confidence in MDC "figuring out CWD"....these are the same limp-wrist babies who let this crap in the front door by playing politics with the high-fence organizations.

Why in the world would you expect them to solve this. They don't even have guts enough to make high-fence "farmers" double their fences.

I still can't believe I used to be a MDC fanboy.
