No additions to the survey this week.

We didn't take the time to scout the farm before we went to work Saturday. I'm sure the brushhogging and disking and us building electric fence didn't attract hens to the fields.

I did get 2 pictures of hens that had poults, but not where they could be counted within reason.

1 tripped the camera in the edge of a plot and you could see the poults heads in the grass near her, but not clear enough for a count. When she tripped the cam there was another hen out in the plot quite aways . She had poults too, but by the time I blew the picture up enough to try and count them the distortion was so bad, I would of had to guess what was dead weeds and what was poults.

Its still good to know they are there.

Ran a hen with 4 poults out of the east food plot when I went in there to disk this morning.

I got zero turkeys on cam. 1/2 the deer I have been getting. My covert near the water hole didn't take pictures again. That's the 3rd time this year it hasn't activated. It isn't long for this world. I'm thinking the high temps are not getting deer or birds into the open like they were a couple weeks ago. Most of my deer pics I did get are low light or night time. I cant say that I blame them.

I need to take the golf cart to the farm and check the edges early morning. But I tend to fire up the tractor and get busy to beat the heat.

This morning I had to repair the electric fence on top of everything else. A deer must of gotten into it.

found a couple of raided nests in the big bottom..broken eggs and feathers everywhere..we are gobbler poor here so if a hen gets bred they need all the help they can get.

A weather change made a difference. I went to change the camera out that's been malfunctioning with a new Browning.

Crossed the creek into our first clover field and there were 2 hens with 11 poults about 1/4 or a little more grown.

That's 15 poults I've seen the last 2 days in plots I don't have cameras in . Lol.

At 9:30 in the morning and I saw 3 deer in plots too. Hot and dry must not promote bug activity like warm and humid does. Clover must taste better too for the deer.

Just in the last couple weeks, I've notice an upturn in coon sign around the barn and garden. I think they are moving back in or the young ones are big enough to be out and about. I still think it helped the hatch in my immediate area this spring. And they will get thinned even more this winter, than last year. My skill level should definitely start at a higher point than the start from scratch like last year. I now notice den sights and travel routes and will have a better idea where to start the trap line. If it just save a couple nest and I'm having fun. I've sure spent money and time on worse things.

This years crop of young is starting to move further with the sows now. That's why I've been checking along the creek for sign. It's closer to the den trees and more likely to have sign.

It will be time to start filling feeders at the bait stations before you know it.
