I agree that you don't have to have frost to germinate but I have seen clover seed get "puddled up" or washed away when it rains before it gets worked down a little. If it is fairly level and you have some ground litter I wouldn't worry about it much.
Agree with broadcasting some wheat also.

The only reason I am waiting for that cold snap is not for frost, its to make sure that I don't have seeds germinating and in a precarious stage when we have some super cold nights. nothing to do with the frost.

Little chance this weekend . We are in drought here ponds are 3-4 low last rain has been a very long time . Several neighbors fertilized hay and pasture that has been sitting there for several weeks.
I feed around 5 big bales every day and my tractor is usually a mess this time of year. The tires are barley dirty.
I'm going to spread a couple hundred pounds next week . It's only money.

Nightime temps in your area are below freezing for 2 weeks straight in March, with some highs only in the low to mid 40's. That's not exactly a heat wave, but its not warm. I doubt is enough to kill clover completely but its not going to grow much if at all during that time but as you say, this is MO.
I'm gonna just seed it then.

Don't count on cold temperatures returning until November
