Hopefully Mr. Hulet has some understudies to continue the craftsmanship.

Boogan, it would be a sin if you don't take that rifle out and hunt it!

Oh it was built to hunt! The barrel to action, headspace and custom crown were done by a friend of mine who works at kreiger. I have said for years that this is the rifle winchester should have built. I recently acquired two winchester model 70 rifles, one chambered in 270 Weatherby and one in 264 win mag. I was trying to decide which one to keep so I got out my loading book and a ballistics calculator and there isn't much difference between those two. So then out of curiosity I threw that 284 into the mix and started looking at the numbers. On paper it is right there with the other 2 and not a magnum case. So there is probably going to be a 264 win mag and 270 Weatherby for sale!

The donor action for this build was originally a pre-64 30-06 that someone had shortened the barrel and changed the stock, no collector value at all so it was the perfect donor. As far as other model 70's, I have a bunch of pre-64's. The 264 is a special order with no factory sights, rear sight isn't dovetailed, some refer to it as a gopher special. It is in 90 percent original condition. I will see if I can find pics. As for other calibers I have a transition model 30-06, a supergrade 30-06, 300 H&H, 338 win mag, 243 varmint, and that 270 weatherby. The weatherby actually started out as a standard 270 and was rechambered to 270 weatherby. It is also in a fajen aftermarket stock. Was customized in the late 60's. At the last Tulsa show I sold a mint 358. If anyone is going to Africa or just wants a gun to kill T-Rex's or wooly mammoths I have a like new post 64 winchester Super Express in 458.
