Planting Guidelines

Quality seeds alone will not provide satisfactory results from your food plot. Proper preparation of the soil is a must for optimum results. We encourage you to read other material on proper planting of specific seed and on proper seed bed preparation before using any of our products. Our guidelines are the minimum requirements necessary for you to obtain a satisfactory food plot. With proper soil preparation and Mother Nature's cooperation, you should have good, quality food plots available to help produce quality deer for your hunting season.

Your results when planting your plots will depend on several variables. Soil preparation, fertilizer and lime, and weather. If possible you should take a soil sample and have it analyzed to find out what levels of fertilizer should be used on your soil. If this isn't possible we would recommend you apply 100 pounds of pellet lime and at least 50 pounds of 13-13-13 fertilizer per 1/2 acre plot. If possible a well tilled seed bed that is firmed with a harrow or drag is ideal. If this is not possible the ground should be tilled to the best levels possible . The seed must make contact with the soil to germinate properly. When soil preparation is complete and lime and fertilizer is applied broadcast the seed evenly over the prepared area . If possible you can roll the seed in with a yard roller or a cult packer . Please do not work the ground or harrow the ground after the seed is applied. The seed should not be covered by more than 1/4 inch of soil . Incorporating the seed to deep will result in the seed not reaching the surface after it sprouts . If you cannot roll the seed to cover it you can still achieve excellent results by broadcasting onto the soil and leaving it.

We would recommend that almost all of our mixtures be planted from early July to the early September in Midwestern conditions. Later if farther south
