Big Blue Stem........Also know as "Sage grass" or "Beard grasses"

This was the chief grass of the tall grass prairie and once covered solid acres. Slow growing bunching grasses that have good drought tolerance, and a high palatability to animals. Big Blue can grow up to six feet and is considered to be one of the primary grasses of the Great Plains. Heights can vary from a normally range of 2 to 6 feet depending on variety, soil conditions and other factors. A normal seeding rate of 10-12 pounds of pure live seed. Seed from April 15 to May 30. Soil pH 5.4 to 6.2. Plant 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep in a good prepared seed bed

Little Blue Stem...

Little bluestem is a bunchgrass that reproduces only by seeds and grows to a height of from 1 to 4 feet. It is a warm season species that starts to grow in late spring and goes to seed in August. Little bluestem is a perennial that produces several stems from one set of fine, fibrous roots that serve to store food and hold the plant in the soil. Planting rate is 6 to 10 lbs of live seed per acre.

Indian Grass

A perennial bunchgrass that is native to Great plains.  Indian grass can grow to a height of 3-6 feet  with excellent heat and drought tolerance. Good nutrition and quality forage ability. Planting rate is 6-10 lbs. per acre of pure live seed.

Side-Oats Gamma

A  perennial, warm-season grass that grows 12 to 24 inches tall. Well suited for the Great Plains region. Planting dates between December and June into a well-prepared, firm seedbed that is free of competition. In areas where wind erosion is a concern, seeding into a dead litter cover is recommended. Plant rate is 6 to 10 lbs of pure seed per acre.

Eastern gamma grass

A warm-season bunch grass native to the eastern United States. This highly productive grass is best adapted to wet habitats and in flood plains and along stream banks. Seeding rates 10 lb/acre of pure live seed. Seeding dates Apr. 15 - May 31 for stratified seed. Nov. 1 - Feb. 28 for untreated seed. Seeding depth 1 to 1.5 inches. PH 5.5 or above.

Switchgrass

also known as Tall Panicgrass, is a tall-growing grass found in marshes, lakeshores, and meadows. It grows in large clumps.

Switchgrass has green blades as leaves, with a reddish tint. Blades can be up to five feet tall and are about 1/2 inch wide.

Illinois Bundle flower

Normally height 2 to 3 feet tall but can grow up to 5 feet high in rich soil.  Its seeds are eaten by wildlife and the foliage has a high protein content and is nutritious for livestock. Planting rates is 13 pure live seed pounds per acre, at a depth of 1/4 to 1/2 inch in a firm seedbed.  Drought-resistant and adapts to a wide array of soil and climate conditions.
